Dr. Miranda C. Walker of Springfield graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy with the class of 2025.

“We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in the field of pharmacy,” said her mother, Theresa Walker.

Dr. Walker is a native of Effingham County and was the salutatorian of the Effingham County High School class of 2018. She is the daughter of Ronald and Theresa Walker.

University of Georgia celebrates Class of 2025

ATHENS -- The University of Georgia celebrated more than 8,000 candidates for graduation – including 25 from Effingham County -- in the Class of 2025 during commencement ceremonies. The spring undergraduate ceremony was held May 9 in Sanford Stadium. Graduate ceremonies were held May 8.

Among the graduates from Guyton are: Addison Tyler, Ashley Pincheon, Bella Tatum, John Brown, Maizie Jackson, Susannah Grant, and Trisha Patel.

Graduates from Rincon are: Annabelle Sheley, Ella Whitley, Emily Schuman, John Royal, Ryan Palmieri, Skylar Smith, Yesha Patel, Zane Rosenbaum, and Nolan Dasher.

Graduates from Springfield are: Kaitlyn Meland, Lauren Usher, Makenzie Driggers, (MS in kinesiology); Miranda Walker (Doctor of Pharmacy); and Samantha Chapin.

Graduates from Bloomingdale are: Clayton Barefield, Isabella Mercer, Meagan Nary, and Theodore Blaske.

Local graduates also included: Connor Page of Eden and Sarah Mathis of Newington.

UGA alumnus Jarryd Wallace, four-time Paralympian and winner of two bronze medals, delivered the spring undergraduate commencement address.

Guyton resident among Carson-Newman University 2025 spring graduates

Kathryn Hampton of Guyton graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christ-centered, liberal arts university affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention. The university offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

The Rev. Lon Maurice Harden has been named the 2025 recipient of the John Adam Treutlen Award, the highest honor from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. A Marine Corps veteran, longtime pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and dedicated community leader, Harden was recognized for his decades of service, spiritual leadership and civic involvement across Effingham County.
