One man is facing several child porn-related charges after Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search warrant Tuesday night at a residence in Port Wentworth.

According to the ECSO, investigators discovered that Eric Scholl, 38, of Port Wentworth was downloading several images and videos of child pornography, with many images of children less than 8 years old.

ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor said Scholl shared the images with a computer with an IP address in Effingham County. That IP address was flagged.

“We were able to verify the computer,” Ehsanipoor said. “We secured a search warrant for his Port Wentworth address. We found the computers, and one had several pornographic images on it.”

The computers were seized as evidence.

Effingham County investigators recovered two computers from Scholl’s Pleasant Drive home. Investigators tracked Scholl down at a friend’s residence on Bisbee Avenue in Garden City where he was taken into custody.

“We got information that the suspect was in Garden City,” Ehsanipoor said. “The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Port Wentworth Police Department and Garden City Police Department made contact with the suspect, and he was arrested.”

Scholl is being held in the Effingham County Jail facing charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The ECSO is a member of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Internet Crimes against Children Task Force (ICAC). This task force is made up of agencies throughout the state with the goal of catching individuals who use the Internet or other wireless devices to prey upon children in an attempt to exploit them for various means.

The ICAC Task Force investigator educates the community in the dangers of not only internet predators but also the importance of preserving personal information and knowing boundaries of social networking sites.

The ICAC Task Force investigator works with state and federal agencies to ensure that child predators are held accountable for their actions against children.
