The Effingham Emergency Management Agency is at Operations Level 4-Elevated Monitoring for Hurricane Dorian.
The current forecasted path of the storm has landfall along the mid-Florida coast as a major hurricane but residents are encouraged to continue to stay updated through local news outlets and the National Hurricane Center (www.hurricanes.gov) for possible changes..
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the NHC advised: that Dorian is a Category 1 hurricane and will move northwest over the coming days.
On the current track, Dorian will impact the Bahamas on Saturday and Sunday, then Florida by Monday morning..
Effingham County could receive outer-band winds and rain Monday and Tuesday but conditions could change due to storm size and intensity..
Now is the time to prepare for tropical storm or hurricane impacts. It is always easier to prepare and not need these than to wait until it is too late..
