Effingham County clinches baseball crown

Effingham County rallied for three sixth-inning runs en route to a 6-3 road victory over Brunswick on Wednesday. The comeback propelled the Rebels to the Region 2-AAAAAA baseball championship.

Christian Campbell broke a 3-3 tie with a double that scored Chrys Hawkins and Chase Howze. Jordan Rahn added the Rebels' final RBI on a bunt single that plated JR Lonon.

Effingham County scored in the first inning on fielder's choice by Perry Fulcher. The Rebels added two runs in the fourth inning, including one on a single by Lonon.

Lonon compiled three of his team's seven hits. Howze added two.

Blake Vincent allowed no runs and no hits during three innings of relief of Avery Elenbaas. Ryan worked the final inning and earned a save.

South Effingham High School’s marching band launched its annual band camp on July 7, bringing together more than 120 student performers to prepare for the fall season and a new theme show titled “Parkour.” Under the leadership of veteran Band Director Sean McBride, students train in music, movement and teamwork during intensive nine-hour days that emphasize precision, endurance and camaraderie.
