Effingham County places fourth, SEHS eighth at Rebel Invitational

The Effingham County High School wrestling team hosted the Rebel Invitational Saturday and welcomed 16 teams, including cross-county foe South Effingham High School. The Rebels finished in fourth place while the Mustangs finished in eighth place.

Competing at the invitational and placing in the following order were: Ware County (245.50), Hilton Head (239.50), Valdosta High (230), Effingham County (189), Perry High School (177), Valdosta “B” (115.50), Windsor Forest (98), South Effingham (94), Greenbriar (85), Islands High School (84.50), Savannah Arts (81.50), Statesboro High (81), Richmond Hill (56.50), Richmond Hill “B” (51), Jenkins (43), Effingham County “B” (41), Hilton Head “B” (34), South Effingham “B” (33), Ware “B” (26), Savannah High (23.50), Greenbriar “B” (23), Groves (16), Statesboro “B” (8), Perry “B” (7), Johnson (5), Jenkins “B” (4), Savannah Arts “B” (3), Windsor Forest “B” (3) and Johnson “B” (0).

For the Rebels, Rick Shores placed third in the 106-pound weight class (4-1), Xavier Wallace placed third in the 126-pound weight class (4-1), Josh Wright placed third in the 132-pound weight class (6-1), Lenny Helverson placed sixth in the 152-pound weight class (3-3), Zebrandon Gant placed first in the 182-pound weight class (3-0), Brantley Emanuel placed second in the 195-pound weight class (3-1), Joseph Wilharm placed fifth in the 220-pound weight class (4-2) and Carson Hunt placed fourth in the 285-pound weight class (4-2).

For the Mustangs, Chase Beard placed fifth in the 132-pound weight class (3-2), Brandon Beard placed third in the 160-pound weight class (4-1) and Bryan Winkles placed second in the 170-pound weight class (3-1).

The Rebels will wrestle again today as they travel to Darien to wrestle the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. They will also travel to Richmond Hill this weekend for the St. Nick Invitational.
