SPRINGFIELD — The sting of defeat in their final two games still lingers. Eventually, however, memories of the many softball victories that came before those season-ended losses are likely to soothe the Effingham County Rebels’ pain.

“It was a pleasure to coach them,” Effingham County coach Johnny Coleman said. “I’ve known most of those girls their whole life and to see them get that far was really awesome. Their goal from the beginning was to reach the Elite Eight.
“It was awesome to be a part of them reaching that goal.”

Effingham County bowed out of the Class AAAAAA Elite Eight in Columbus after two games. They fell 4-1 and 4-3 to Allatoona and Evans, respectively.

Allattona advanced to the championship round Saturday, beating Creekview once before losing in the finale 7-6.
