SPRINGFIELD — Ben Cantrell expects the unexpected. That is the primary thing he finds interesting about his job as an agent for the Effingham County Cooperative Extension.

"On any day, I could deal with anything from armadillo control, to water quality or how do I grow this or that?" Cantrell said. "It's a great job. There's always something new and I'm always learning something, too."

Cantrell started Jan. 3. He came from California with his wife and two young children.
