C. Edward Helmey Sr. was honored recently with a surprise recognition supper by the Effingham County Farm Bureau at Zion Lutheran Church.

“Mr. Ed” was honored for 60-plus years of volunteer service to the Farm Bureau in many different capacities. He became a member of the Effingham Farm Bureau when the county farm bureau was organized in 1941 when he was around 20 years old.

He has served on the board of directors for the better part of those years, serving as county president from 1970-1975. Georgia Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall presented Mr. Ed with a diamond pin for his faithful service to the farm organization.

The Helmey family, Middle Georgia Vice President Brent Galloway, Seventh District Director Ben Boyd, Seventh District Field Representative Todd Faircloth and friends from the Marlow and Springfield Farm Bureau chapters were also present at the event.
