Lt. Jose Ramirez served as Rincon's interim police chief for several weeks last year before Mark Gerbino was hired to fill the role on a permanent basis in October.

RINCON — The City of Rincon is awaiting a notice of appeal from a high-profile officer who was terminated Jan. 16.

According to city officials, Lt. Jose Ramirez was terminated Jan. 16 following an investigation into violations of employment standards of the City of Rincon and the police department. No details of the violations were given.

In the wake of last year’s resignation of Phillip Scholl, Ramirez served as Rincon’s interim police chief for several weeks until Mark Gerbino was hired in October.

Lt. Jonathon Murrell has been moved into Ramirez’s position and assumed the role as the department’s operations commander.

Ramirez has 10 days from his termination date to file an appeal
