Former Rincon mayor to run for council

Qualifying for elections in Effingham County’s three municipalities ended Friday afternoon, and seven people put their name in the hat for Rincon’s three city council seats that are up for election.

Incumbents Reese Browher and Paul Wendelken qualified to run again, while former mayor George Saraf also qualified to run for city council. Also having qualified to run for office are Ann Daniel, Peter Higgins, Jeff Kublin and Jeff Miller.

Three people have put their names in to run for mayor in Guyton, including incumbent Michael Garvin. Fred Griffin and Jimmy L. Wells also are running for mayor.

Two sitting councilmembers, Brenda Lovett and Les Pevey, are running again for their posts. Ulysses K. Eaton and C.D. Dean III, son of the late former Guyton mayor, also qualified to run the Post 2 seat currently held by Lovett.
Butch Kieffer will run again for his seat on the Springfield City Council. Troy Lamar Allen and Timothy Uzupan also qualified to run. Dennis Webb, one of three councilmembers whose seats are up for election, has decided not to run again.

Municipal elections are set for Nov. 6.
