Ga. Hwy 21 improvements slated in Port Wentworth
Traffic

PORT WENTWORTH -- Ga. Hwy 21 at Coldbrook Station Circle and Cook Street will start seeing improvements by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) as early as the end of April.

At the request of the City of Port Wentworth, GDOT will install a Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) in this area.

The RCUT will prevent motorists on Cook Street and Coldbrook Station Circle from crossing Ga. Hwy 21 and entering the median to turn left onto Ga. Hwy 21. GDOT will be placing sturdy, refelctive vertical posts lined in the median in this area, which will require these motorists to turn right onto Ga. Hwy 21.

The Port Wentworth Police Department responded to 151 motor vehicle collisions from July 2020 thru January 2021 in this area. Having the RCUTs in place will reduce the amount of collisions in this area, which will also reduce the amount of unnecessary traffic delays these collisions causes
