GBI to probe officer-involved shooting in Paddleford

SPRINGFIELD -- On Tuesday at 7 p.m.,  the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in Paddleford Subdivision about a woman threatening suicide.

Deputies arrived on the scene, attempted to make contact with the woman and the situation escalated very quickly, resulting in the woman being shot.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an official investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The deputy involved is physically unharmed and on administrative leave, per standard protocol.

Names will be released once all notifications have been made.
