Guyton City Council finally has five names to consider putting on its newly-created leisure services board.

Council members approved accepting the nominations of Kim Young, Lula Harden Seabrooks, Joseph Lee, Laverne P. Bowers and Robert Hunter for the five-member board.

But without Dr. Brenda Lovett — who had a death in the family — and Les Pevey — who was out of town and could not get back in time for the meeting, the rest of the council members held off on appointing the board members.

City council also will hold the swearing-in for the new leisure services board at a later date.

Board members will serve staggered terms, with their duration done in alphabetical order. One board member initially will serve a one-year term, two will have two-year terms and the other two will have three-year terms.

Guyton will host the “Back to School Splash” at the Guyton Civic Center on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is sponsored by ROC and will have hot dogs, chips and drinks available. Inflatable water slides also are slated to be part of the festivities.

“We’ll have a good time,” Alderman Jeff Lariscy said.
