A Guyton man was killed Wednesday morning in a motorcycle crash. Another man remains in critical condition after both motorcycles collided, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.

Around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Caleb Wayne Hazzard, 21, of Beaver Road was traveling south on Highway 67 near mile marker 12 when he tried to pass a car, GSP Post 45 Trooper 1st Class Carl Hutchison said.

Hazzard’s motorcycle hit a motorcycle driven by Merritt Larry Chambers, 51, of Nesmith Proctor Road in Brooklet. Chambers was severely injured and flown to a hospital in Augusta, Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said.

Hazzard was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary reports by GSP Trooper 1st Class Jamie Holloway stated that Hazzard was driving in a “reckless, careless manner,” Hutchinson said.
