RINCON — Wilhelmina Roberson was virtually speechless, but she didn’t need to say anything. Her beaming face told the story.

Roberson is a new homeowner. She received the keys to the house at 219 Greene Drive from Habitat from Humanity Executive Director Jimmy Rutland on Saturday.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Roberson said with tears in her eyes.

Roberson, formerly of Savannah, will live in the house with her four children. She is an employee of the Effingham County Board of Education.

“Wilhelmina’s journey to Habitat home ownership actually didn’t begin with our affiliate,” Rutland said. “She actually applied and had been accepted by the Coastal Empire affiliate in November or December of 2015.”

Rutland and a Coastal Empire colleague conferred and decided to build Roberson’s house in Effingham County where she works.

“We changed our policy to where if you live or work in Effingham County for a year we can build a home for you,” Rutland said.
