Lady Rebels recognized at banquet

SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County High School softball team conducted its end-of-season awards banquet Dec. 4 at New Ebenezer Retreat Center.

Francie Gaskin was recognized as the JV MVP.  Harleigh Caine was given the JV Rebel Award and Levia Thomas earned the JV Most Improved Award.

The Lady Rebels had several players who were named All-Region 2 AAAAAA.   Haley Arnsdorff (infield), Cevana Wood (utility player) and Jaci Coleman (outfield) were named to the first team while Taylor Morgan (outfield), Sydney Newberry (infield), Ashley Wilson (outfield), and Addie Reynolds (designated player) were named to the second team.

Hayley Dickerson was recognized as the region Pitcher of the Year, and Bailee Wilson was named the region Player of the Year.

The coaching staff named Bailee Wilson offensive player of the year for the Lady Rebels. Wood got the nod as defensive player of the year.  Dickerson was named the team’s MVP and Arnsdorff was given the Rebel Award. Gracie Whaley received the “Oh My Stars” award.

Wood and  Morgan were selected as members of the 2017 Georgia Dugout Club Senior All-Star Team.  Wood had a batting average of .387 and an on-base percentage of .424.  Morgan’s batting average was .341 and her on-base percentage was .386.

Bailee Wilson was named to the all-state first team as an infielder and pitcher.  She had a batting average of .505, an on-base percentage of .543, eight home runs and 38 RB.

Dickerson was named to the all-state second team as a pitcher. She recorded 109 strikeouts in 94 innings and had an ERA of 2.44.  She had a total of 13 wins on the season. 

Coleman was also named to the all-state second team as an outfielder.  Her batting average was .465 and her on-base percentage was .578.
