SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County High School softball team conducted its end-of-season awards banquet Dec. 4 at New Ebenezer Retreat Center. Francie Gaskin was recognized as the JV MVP. Harleigh Caine was given the JV Rebel Award and Levia Thomas earned the JV Most Improved Award. The Lady Rebels had several players who were named All-Region 2 AAAAAA. Haley Arnsdorff (infield), Cevana Wood (utility player) and Jaci Coleman (outfield) were named to the first team while Taylor Morgan (outfield), Sydney Newberry (infield), Ashley Wilson (outfield), and Addie Reynolds (designated player) were named to the second team.

A Rincon police officer has returned to duty following an internal review into his use of force during the arrest of a shoplifting suspect at Walmart. The department released redacted body camera footage, the initial incident report, and a statement Wednesday, citing transparency. Warrants have been issued for five suspects in connection with the alleged theft.
