Summer Reading Challenge starts June 1 and continues through July 31 at all library locations across Effingham, Chatham, and Liberty Counties. The program encourages children, teens, and adults to read great books, enjoy special events, and explore the community.
The Rincon Library is located at 105 W. 17th St., Rincon.
Summer Reading gives everyone a chance to relax, read, and recharge. This year's theme, "All Together Now" celebrates kindness, friendship, and the importance of spending time together.
"Libraries serve an essential role in the community throughout the year, but we always look forward to the energy of summertime," said Lola Shelton-Council, library executive director. "Youth and families can find a variety of educational and entertaining activities to stay engaged with reading and learning while school is out."
Library visitors can sign up for Summer Reading Challenge, get a calendar of programs, and check out books at Summer Kick-Off Parties.
Children and families can sing, laugh, and play along with Special Performers and interactive programs featuring music, magic, and mindfulness. Teens can hang out with art, crafts, and gaming activities. Adults can connect with book clubs and movie matinees. View the complete calendar at liveoakpl.org/programs.
Free, healthy Summer Lunches for children and youth will also be available at select library locations – including the Rincon and Springfield locations -- in partnership with America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
In addition to programs at the library, Summer Reading Challenge participants can register online in Beanstack to track reading activities and earn rewards as they make progress towards the goal of completing 10 hours of reading. After finishing the Challenge, children and teens will receive a free book, adults will receive a free tote bag, and all ages will earn a chance to win a Grand Prize!
The community can take advantage of the Library's digital resources for reading as well. Whether at home or on summer vacation, you can access ebooks, audiobooks, and more online anytime through the eLibrary.
And if you want to explore beyond the pages of a book, you can use your library card to check out free passes to Georgia State Parks, Coastal Heritage Society sites, Telfair Museums, and other cultural centers across the state.
