Local efforts begin for storm relief

The Rincon Police Department is teaming up with Toomers for tornado disaster relief efforts in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Rincon Police will be accepting donations of such items as non-perishable food, baby items, clothing and personal hygiene. A drop off station will be set up at the rear of the Rincon Police Department on West 17th Street. Items can be dropped off Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Donations will be taken through May 13. All items donated will be taken to Peachtree City to a distribution warehouse and then distributed throughout the state as needed.

Pineora Baptist Church also is collecting items to be taken to First Baptist Church of Moody, Ala. Pineora Baptist will begin taking donations on May 9. Items needed include personal hygiene supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap and deodorant, shoes, clothing, blankets, small toys for displaced children, first aid products, feminine products, baby food, toilet paper, tissue, canned food and individual juices.
