Local players set for Blitz Border Bowl

South Effingham linebacker Makenly Newbill will join a trio of Effingham County players on the Coast Empire team in Saturday’s inaugural Blitz Border Bowl in Pooler.
The Rebels in the 12:30 p.m. contest are running back Toot Johnson, wide receiver/safety Demario Gant and offensive tackle/defensive tackle Michael Richard.
The Blitz Border Bowl pits 40 Coastal Empire players against a 40-man contingent from the Lowcountry. The contest will benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
The Coastal Empire is coached by Richmond Hill’s Matt LeZotte. John Houpt of Bluffton (S.C.) will direct the Lowcountry squad.
Tickets cost $10.
The game will be broadcast live on WSAV.
