United Way Effingham Service Center sponsored a local American Red Cross blood drive on Friday. The blood drive was being held to address the need for blood for burn victims of the Imperial Sugar refinery explosion.
Thirteen of the 15 surviving patients at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center are in critical condition. The remaining two are in serious condition. One patient died Friday afternoon.
The United Way will be accepting pennies from 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. ongoing during the week.
