Organizers couldn’t have asked for a nicer day for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade.

People lined the streets of Springfield as the parade stepped off at 10 a.m., led by Springfield Mayor Jeff Northway, and marched up Laurel Street. Grand marshal Juanita Wood smiled and waved as her car passed by.

Several area churches took part in the parade as well as both Effingham high school bands. Several of the winners of the MLK Jr. Parade theme contest also participated in the parade.

Many of the entries threw or handed candy out to the kids and the Georgia-Pacific’s float handed out packs of their products to parade watchers.
