RINCON, Ga. — Effingham County is getting an economic boost as Medlog opens a 300,000-square-foot cold chain facility off Heritage Way, bringing more than 100 jobs, $65 million in economic impact, and further establishing the county as a growing logistics hub for the Southeast and beyond.
Local and state leaders joined company officials at the grand opening Sept. 10, including Rincon Mayor Kevin Exley, Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns, State Rep. Bill Hitchens, and State Sen. Billy Hickman.
The facility features the largest blast freezing capacity in the United States, capable of freezing up to 3 million pounds of raw protein in 24 hours — three times faster than the industry standard. It is designed to serve protein suppliers across the U.S.
“This latest investment will greatly benefit the region and the Port of Savannah, one of the fastest-growing ports in the world,” said Michael Burton, president of Medlog USA. “This ‘crown jewel of the cold storage industry’ demonstrates our commitment to our customers and the communities in which we operate.”
The facility can store nearly 20,000 freezer and cooler pallets and offers flexible storage zones with temperatures ranging from –20°F to +40°F. It includes 42 loading docks and rail access for inland distribution, connecting suppliers across the Southeast and Midwest to international markets through the Port of Savannah.
