Mustangs to play for region softball crown

GUYTON -- South Effingham clinched a spot in next week's Region 2-AAAAA softball championship series by sweeping Ware County on Wednesday 3-0 and 11-1.

The Mustangs will host Statesboro for the first two games of the best-of-three title set next Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m..

Rachel Mixon, Cheyenne Miller and ReAnn McCloy each swatted two hits in the opener against Ware County. Georgia Dowling added one hit and one RBI.

Dowling collected two hits and two RBI in the second game.  Miller and Hailey Pinette also had two hits, and Mixon chipped in one hit and a pair of RBI.

Kastin Belogorska, the winning pitcher in both games, had three  hits in the nightcap.

Warrants have been issued for five suspects in connection with the alleged theft.
