New Blue Jay Road-McCall Road curve alignment expected to open by Sunday

SPRINGFIELD -–The new curved alignment connecting Blue Jay Road and McCall Road together near the intersection with Norfolk Southern Railroad is expected to open by Sunday.

Effingham County’s road contractor APAC-Atlantic, Inc. (APAC) is currently scheduled to begin final surface paving beginning Friday and is expected to have traffic in the newly constructed alignment on Sunday. he paving during this period will include shoulder paving on the new alignment section, full paving typical at the turn lane, leveling at the three tie-in sections, and finish paving on the new alignment section. 

APAC will maintain traffic in the current configuration until paving is completed.

 

Drivers traveling east on Blue Jay Road will be required to make a right turn at the new intersection to continue toward Rincon. Likewise, drivers on Blandford Road traveling west will make a left turn onto Blue Jay Road at the intersection within the new curve. McCall Road travelers going south will make a left turn onto Blandford Road to continue on McCall Road. McCall and Blandford Road traffic wishing to travel north will make a right turn onto the new curve.

 

Traffic traveling north on McCall will have access to the properties and newly constructed convenience store but through traffic will not be allowed and the road will be permanently closed just north of the convenience store. Traffic traveling north on McCall beyond the corner properties or convenience store will be required to drive west of the original Blue Jay and McCall intersection and enter the new alignment spur as it connects to Blue Jay, turn right onto the new alignment and continue north on McCall Road as the new alignment connects to the existing McCall Road northbound lane. Traffic traveling south on McCall Road will be required to enter the new alignment roughly 1,200 feet north of the original intersection and will continue through this new alignment section as it connects to the original Blue Jay Road west bound lane or traffic intending on traveling east on Blue Jay Road will be required to make a left turn onto the new alignment spur and back onto the original Blue Jay east bound lane. Traffic traveling east on Blue Jay Road will be required to enter the new alignment in front of the fire station. To continue east traffic will be required to make a right turn at the spur of the new alignment and continue to the original Blue Jay Road eastbound lane. Blue Jay eastbound traffic wanting to make a left and travel north on McCall Road will again be required to enter the new alignment in front of the fire station and will travel through the new alignment and exit as the new alignment ties in with the existing north bound lane of McCall Road. Traffic traveling west on Blandford Road / Blue Jay Road and wanting to turn north on McCall Road will be required to continue west on Blue Jay Road past the original intersection of Blue Jay Road and McCall Road and enter the new alignment as the spur of this new alignment connects to the existing west bound lane of Blue Jay Road. The traffic will then be required to make a right turn as the spur connects to the new alignment and follow the new alignment until it connects with the existing north bound lane of McCall Road. Traffic wanting to continue west on Blue Jay Road will also be required to enter the spur of the new alignment and will be required to make a left turn as the spur connects to the new alignment and follow the new alignment until it connects with the existing west bound lane of Blue Jay Road.
