SPRINGFIELD — Peachy Tees owner Tim Polk didn’t blink when Sidney Blanton, Georgia district governor, welcomed him to the Exchange Club of Effingham County on Thursday.
“From this day forward, you will have many challenging opportunities to serve your community through Exchange,” Blanton said before placing an Exchange Club pin on Polk’s collar. “It’s like what I tell a lot of people, you only get out of something what you put into it.”
Blanton, a Valdosta resident, expressed disappointment in a lot of club members around the state who don’t participate in club activities.
“They show up (for meetings), they fellowship and then they go home,” Blanton said. “That’s all they do. That’s their total contact with Exchange.
“It’s not benefitting them and it’s not benefitting Exchange other than having them on the rolls.”
Polk nodded that he is ready to help.
The Exchange Club of Effingham County recently raised $26,400 during its Empty Stocking Fund project for needy families.
