New businesses are headed to the Rincon South shopping center at the corner of Fort Howard Road and Highway 21.

Seven new stores will be added to the 100,000 square foot property. They include Goody’s, Dollar Tree, Rue 21, Maurices, GameStop and Hibbett Sports.

Rhodes Seeger, an agent with Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate Company, said the company is aiming for a completion date as early as November of this year and at the latest, the first quarter of 2008.

Asked why make the changes now, Seeger responded,  “Well, it’s just the location and growth of the area.”

The Augusta-based firm purchased the shopping center last year. They plan to change the elevation of the structure and install a new roof. The parking lot will also get a facelift with new pavement and lightning.

“It’s something I think the city of Rincon has wanted to see for a while now,” Seeger said of the changes being made.

He said it was hard to find a retailer big enough to fit the old Kroger store that occupied the complex originally. Goody’s is one of the few that does. The other retailers moving in are typical of those in a Wal-mart shopping center, according to Seeger.

Rue 21 and Maurices are retail stores that sell fashionable and affordable clothing. The styles are primarily geared to teens and young adults.

GameStop will accommodate gamers in the community. The world’s largest video game retailer sells both new and used products. Hibbetts is a sporting goods retailer with more than 600 stores in over 23 states.
