Old River Road reopens
Semi, church van collide

Old River Road is reopened after a collision between a semi and a church van led to its closure Monday evening.

Seven children on the church van were hurt in the wreck but none of the injuries were deemed to be life-threatening.

The accident took place after a pickup truck hit the stop sign at Old River Road and Highway 80, knocking it down. The pickup went into a nearby ditch, and the driver fled on foot. He was later apprehended by Effingham County Sheriff's deputies.

The church van came through the intersection not long after the pickup had knocked the stop sign down and since there was no sign, the van did not stop at the intersection.
