Olde Effingham Day Festival set for Saturday

It’s time again to step back into time and enjoy a day at the Effingham Museum and Living History Site in Springfield.

On Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 1002 N. Pine Street at Early Street, the Effingham Museum will be open with ten rooms of displays and history from prehistoric times to World War II.

The Living History Site has twelve buildings with some moved to the site from local farms and others built to complement the community atmosphere.

The houses are furnished and the other buildings, such as the blacksmith shop, cane grinding shed and equipment shed, display machinery used in the “good ole days”.

And don’t forget to check out the real Effingham County Whiskey still display!

The children will enjoy hammering, sawing, grinding corn to make grits and walking on stilts.

Demonstrations of crafts and handwork will charm those recalling Grandmothers.

The local Sons of the Confederacy will have an encampment and cannon display and the United Daughters of the Confederacy will grace us with their finery.

Our feature food from the “old days” is hash and rice!  We also have barbeque and hot dogs at the Historic Effingham Society food booth at the Hut.

The bake sale will top off the day with a great dessert.

There will be vendors selling their wares, businesses showing their new and time-tested ideas and services and more food!

Musicians pickin’ and grinnin’ and ramblin’ around (bring your instrument and join in for a while) as well as old cars, tractors, fire engines, and military displays.

Come join us for the day and we’ll put a good olde fashioned smile on your face with free admission, thanks to our sponsors and parking around the Court House Square.

Donations appreciated. For more information, call the Museum at 912-754-2170.
