One driver badly hurt in accident

Rescue crews had to cut a 19-year-old driver out of her vehicle after a two-car collision Monday morning.

According to Effingham County Sheriff’s Office reports, an Oldsmobile Intrigue and a Ford Ranger pickup collided head-on along Blue Jay Road near Hodgeville Road. The driver of the Oldsmobile was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after she was trapped inside her vehicle for approximately 30 minutes as rescuers attempted to extract her.

Weather is believed to have been a factor as one of the vehicles hydroplaned.
