Pedestrian struck, killed in Guyton

A man died Monday morning after being hit by a tractor-trailer rig on Ga. Hwy 119 in Guyton.

The pedestrian, in his mid 30s, was struck right at the city limit sign on the north side of town at approximately 5:45 a.m.. The driver of the fully loaded truck, which was headed south, attempted to stop before impact.

Coroner David Exley has identified the victim via fingerprints. His name will not be released, however, until his next of kin is notified.

The Georgia State Patrol is the lead investigative agency. The Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Effingham County EMS, Rincon Fire Department and other agencies also responded.
