SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham County earned its initial win under first-year head coach John Ford in dominating fashion Friday night.

The Rebels (1-1) limited Lakeside-Evans (0-3) to one first down and 36 total yards en route to a 20-0 at Rebel Field.

Offensively, Matthew Ford completed 26 of 35 passes for 254 yards and one touchdown. He first-quarter scoring toss to Timothy Brown covered 36 yards.

Effingham County will visit Howard (2-1) in Macon next week. The Huskies forfeited last week's game against Northside because of COVID-19 precautions,

Buddy Carter, R-Ga., who represents Effingham County, said his twin granddaughters survived catastrophic flooding at Camp Mystic in Texas, but their 9-year-old cousin, Janie Hunt, was killed. Carter shared the heartbreaking news on social media and in interviews with Fox News, CNN, and Atlanta News First, revealing that Janie’s body was found on her mother’s birthday. Carter said his granddaughters survived by climbing onto a roof and waiting for rescue.
