The Effingham County Board of Education unanimously approved Donnie Revell as the next head football coach at South Effingham High School.

Board members made their decision Wednesday afternoon following a brief executive session to discuss SEHS Principal Dr. Mark Winters' recommendation.

"I hope this is the last time for a long time we have to talk about hiring football coaches," Superintendent Randy Shearouse. "A lot of effort goes into it. When you think about Donnie, you think about the kids loving him and playing hard for him. He's a very smart defensive coach. We look forward to him having great success at South Effingham."

The school had approximately 40 applicants for the position, which became open when Greg Manior accepted the head football coaching job at Screven County. School officials interviewed five finalists.

“It was a difficult decision,” Winters said. “We had good interviews and good applicants. We wanted to find someone who is the right fit for South Effingham."
