RINCON -- In a special called meeting Monday night, the  Rincon City Council created a plan of action against COVID-19.

Mayor Ken Lee noted that there have been no confirmed cases of the respiratory illness in the Coastal Health District. Still, several city gatherings were canceled in an effort to reduce the risk of infecting  city employees and residents. They include:

-- Today's Planning and Zoning meeting

-- The March 23 council meeting

-- Municipal Court on March 26

In addition, the Rincon Recreation Department has canceled community events, tournaments and practices have been cancelled until after spring break. These items might resume after the Effingham County School District's spring break.

City leaders remind residents that they can pay their water bills and court fines online.  For the next 30 days, the normal administrative fee of $1.25 will be waived.

City Hall has a drive-through window and encourages residents to use it in lieu of going inside.

The Rincon Fire Department is still in full operation but no outside visitors are allowed inside the fire station.

More closings and cancellations may be announced as the situation evolves.
