A Sunday morning accident in Glynn County claimed the life of a Rincon man.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Allen Zeigler, 69, died at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick after the car he was driving was involved in a single-vehicle accident. Zeigler was driving his 2003 Toyota Avalon southbound on I-95 when he apparently either fell ill or fainted prior to his car striking the guardrail.

Zeigler’s car was in the left lane and the left side of the car struck the guardrail. The car went into the median and struck the guardrail again, and the second impact caused the left front tire and wheel assembly to break away from the car. The car traveled another 124 feet and struck the guardrail for a third time.

The car eventually came to a rest 556 feet from its initial impact with the guardrail.

Zeigler’s wife Caroline was taken to Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center with injuries.

The GSP is awaiting results from the medical examiner on the cause of death.
