Rincon parade lining up entries

Plans already are under way for the 32nd annual Lions Club Christmas Parade.

The parade, sponsored by the Rincon Noon Lions Club, will be held Nov. 17. Units will line up beginning at 8:15 a.m. that day at Macomber Park, and the procession will commence at 10 a.m.

Though the 3rd Infantry Division band won’t be taking part in the parade — it is currently on duty in Afghanistan — Danny Fries of the Lions Club said parade organizers are arranging to have a color guard from Fort Stewart and a marching troupe of 3rd ID soldiers.

Fries also said there will be “a lot of Shrine units” in the parade, and Ronald McDonald also is expected to be a part of the festivities.

He added they also would like to have entries of tractors and antique cars, along with re-enactors.

Fries said they also are looking for dance troupes and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops to take part.

Church floats are being arranged in categories based on size of church membership, with categories of up to 125, 126 to 250, 251 to 400 and more than 400 members. This year, there also will be theme-based awards for church floats.

Entry forms are available at Guyton, Rincon and Springfield city halls and proceeds go to support Lions Club efforts, such as vision help for underprivileged children and hearing aids.

Santa Claus will help bring up the rear of the parade procession.

Organizers are in the process of enlisting craftsmen for the sixth annual Dickens Village Craft Festival. This event takes place in conjunction with the Lions Club Christmas Parade in Rincon.

The Craft Festival takes place in the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Rincon. An application fee reserves a spot. All the proceeds go to international missions.

Applications can be picked up at First Baptist Church at 201 E. 6th Street in Rincon or at Rincon City Hall.

Forms also can be faxed or emailed. Call the church office at 826-5536 for more information or forms can be picked up at city of Rincon offices.

If you have questions call Dr. Bill Gammon at the church office at 826-5536. Organizers also are looking for a few food vendors.

To be in the parade, call Fries at 663-2412.
