Rincon voters to determine sale of alcohol on Sundays
rinconlogo

Voters in the United States have a lot to think about between now and Nov. 8, when the country will decide on the next President. For voters in Rincon, they will also be deciding whether the sale of packaged beer and wine will be allowed on Sundays.

Rincon City Council members voted to include the issue on the ballot in May and the residents of Rincon will have their say in just a few weeks.

Currently, the sale of all packaged alcohol – wine and beer – from convenience stores and grocery stores in Rincon is prohibited on Sunday while restaurants can still serve alcohol by the glass. The goal of allowing the sale of packaged beer and wine on Sundays is to keep area stores (Kroger, Walmart, Parkers, etc.) competitive with stores in Port Wentworth.

If the voters determine that the sale of packaged alcohol on Sunday should be allowed, stores in Rincon will be able to sell packaged beer and wine on Sundays from the hours of 1 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.

Neither Guyton nor Springfield has the issue on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Voters in Effingham County, like all Georgia voters, must have been registered before the Oct. 11 deadline for the general election.

Early voting began on Oct. 17 and will run until Nov. 4. On Saturday, the polls will be open for in-person voting from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Early voting locations in Effingham County are located at the Effingham County Board of Elections and Registration at 284 GA Highway 119 South in Springfield and at Old Marlow Elementary School at 4752 GA Highway 17 South in Guyton.

On Nov. 8, the following places will be open for voters to cast their ballots: for District 1, Zion Lutheran Church (121 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton), Sand Hill Baptist Church (1931 Sand Hill Road, Guyton), Meldrim Baptist Church (229 Ohoopee Avenue, Meldrim) and Faulkville Baptist Church (144 Zeigler Road, Bloomingdale); for District 2, Church of Christ (1952 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton), St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (155 Goshen Road, Rincon) and Grace Community Church (1094 Goshen Road, Rincon); for District 3, Elam Egypt Baptist Church (184 5th Street, Guyton), Clyo Community Center (545 Fair Street, Clyo), Bethel Lutheran Church (1984 Highway 21 North, Springfield) and Pilgrim Baptist Association (810 Central Boulevard, Guyton); for District 4, Springfield Methodist Family Life Center (210 Cleveland Street, Springfield), Rincon Church of God Family Life Center (3430 Highway 21 South, Rincon) and Multi Agency Call Center (181 Recycle Way, Guyton); for District 5, Macomber Recreational Center (1004 Lexington Avenue, Rincon), Rincon Baptist Temple (305 Weisenbaker Road, Rincon) and Rincon First Christian Church (5835 Highway 21 South, Rincon).
