SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after being called to the scene Tuesday.

Just before 7 a.m., the Effingham County Dispatch Center received a call that there had been a shooting in the 200 block of Woodland Drive. Deputies arrived to find 45-year-old Charles Ellis Morgan Jr. and his wife, 34-year-old Korina Morgan were both shot in an attempted murder-suicide.

Korina Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene. Charles Morgan was transported to Effingham Memorial Hospital where he later died.

According to the initial investigation, it appears Charles Morgan shot his wife then turned the gun on himself.

This is an ongoing investigation.
