South Effingham searching for baseball coach

GUYTON -- South Effingham has opted not to retain John DeRing as its baseball coach.

DeRing led the Mustangs for two seasons, clinching state playoff berths both years by finishing second in Region 2-AAAAA to Wayne County.

South Effingham finished 16-14 in 2018, losing to Thomas County Central in the opening round of the postseason. 

The Mustangs went 17-12 in DeRing's first season.

Seven-year-old Beckham, a student at Ebenezer Elementary, raised nearly $3,500 for Effingham County school lunch funds through a summer lemonade stand. With help from his family and community donations, his project became a heartfelt lesson in entrepreneurship and giving back.
