SPRINGFIELD — Something besides  leaves is about to fall in Downtown Springfield.

On Saturday, the Springfield Fall Festival is set to provide a full day of fun for people of all ages. It will include live music, arts and crafts, numerous food choices, activities for children and, of course, shopping on Laurel Street.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said City Clerk Jennifer Smith, one of the festival’s organizers. “It’s been ten years since the festival began so we are hoping to have a good one.”

The main event will be an 8 p.m. free concert by local singing sensation Hannah Dasher. The Effingham County native was a member of CMT’s 2021 Next Women of Country list. She has opened shows for Country Music Hall of Famer Reba McEntyre.

“Hannah Dasher is the big deal,” Smith said. “Clayton Hackle will open for her (at 6 p.m.). He is out of Metter, Georgia.

“He has a couple tunes on iTunes and Spotify.”

The stage will rock at 5 p.m. with the powerful sound of Chuck Bonds, the winner of the recent “Angel Oak Idol” contest at the Mars Theatre.

“He’s very good,” Smith said.

Speaking of the theatre, it will show “Ticket to Paradise” at 10 a.m. and college football games will streamed there throughout the afternoon. It will also host Mimosas at the Mars.

Toddlerland, a free play area for small children, will open at 10 a.m. Bracelets that cost $10 will allow older kids to have access to an inflatable obstacle course, Zorb Ball Race, Toxic Wipeout and Jacob’s Ladder.

Smith said approximately 80 arts and crafts vendors have signed up for the event and more are expected.

“That’s very good,” she said. “We will also have food trucks. We’ve got 15 food vendors, plus the normal businesses on Laurel Street will be participating.”

The Springfield Downtown Development Authority, a festival sponsor, will be selling beer. The other sponsors are EOM Operations, Bank of Newington, Taylor’s Landscape Supply and Yancy Rentals.

The festival will end at 10 p.m.
