The city of Springfield is making plans for one of the highlights of the summer.

Council members voted to approve a contract with Falcon Fireworks for the annual Independence Day fireworks show, which will be held July 2 at Effingham County High School.

The first set of letters asking for support went out Tuesday, City Manager Brett Bennett said. The city has money set aside in its special events budget for the fireworks show.
