Municpal elections in Springfield becaume unnecessary Friday after the candidate qualifying period closed with incumbents drawing no opposition.

Mayor Barton A. Alderman and council members Jerry Maennche, Jamey Dale and John Keny Usher will retain their seats pursuant to  O.C.G.A. § 21-2-291. The incumbents have been deemed to have voted for themselves, nixing the need for an election.
