Springfield wants to take a closer look at recycling program

Springfield City Council members said they want to know more about a possible recycling effort.

The city has had discussions with Waste Management, its sanitation provider, about a recycling program, City Manager Brett Bennett said. What’s being discussed is a single-stream recycling — “you put everything in one can,” Bennett said.
Pickup of recycling containers would take place every other week, and it would mean the city’s regular trash pickup schedule would go from two days a week to once a week.

“I’ve been getting a lot of pressure from citizens about recycling,” said council member Jeff Ambrose. “This is about as easy as it gets. I think you’ll get citizens to comply with the plan.”
