Suspected meth maker remains behind bars

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man after discovering a methamphetamine lab at his residence in southern Effingham County.


On Friday afternoon, deputies discovered an active meth lab as well as several bags of methamphetamine at a residence on Withlacoochee Avenue.


Drug investigators arrested Benjamin Groover, 42, of Bloomingdale, and charged him with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, and unlawful possession of pseudoephedrine.


This arrest was a result of an ongoing operation conducted by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Team. Additional arrests are expected as this is an ongoing investigation.


Groover, who has an extensive criminal history and has served time in prison for manufacturing methamphetamine, is being held in the Effingham County Jail.
