Teams work around Irma

GUYTON — It's going to be a challenging week in what has been a challenging season for South Effingham coach Donnie Revell.

Immediately following his team's 43-20 loss to Effingham County on Thursday, Revell's mind was filled with thoughts of Hurricane Irma and the impact it would have on the area and his team. At the time, the Category 5 storm was projected to slam the Coastal Empire on Monday, just four days before the Mustangs were set to visit West Laurens.

"Our hopes and prayers right now are for the Savannah area, all the people here, our kids and their families," Revell said.

Many of Revell's players and their families left for parts unknown after Thursday's game to seek refuge.
