SPRINGFIELD -- Don't feel sorry for Taylor Scott because she didn't get any presents for her ninth birthday. Be proud of her.

Scott, a third grader at South Effingham Elementary School, spurned birthday gifts in favor of donations for the Effingham County Animal Shelter. She and her mother, Kimberly, presented a carload of pet food, toys and leashes to the organization Wednesday.
