Two men were arrested Tuesday night after an Effingham County Sheriff’s deputy discovered a methamphetamine lab inside their vehicle during a traffic stop.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a deputy observed a white Chevrolet Suburban driving erratically on Oliver Kildare Road in north Effingham County, according to ECSO reports. During the stop, the patrol deputy discovered a methamphetamine lab and additional methamphetamine inside of the vehicle.

The driver, Travis Girardeau, 27, and his passenger, Benjamin Roberts, 28, both of Brooklet, were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, as well as several traffic related offenses.

This is an ongoing investigation which is being handled by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Team. Additional charges and arrests are expected.

Girardeau and Roberts are being held in the Effingham County Jail.
