Tuesday wreck results in two deaths

A two-car accident Tuesday afternoon took the life of oneEffinghamCountywoman and seriously injured another woman.

Angela Faith Boatright, 24, was driving on north bound onOld River Roadwhen her car was struck by a vehicle driven by Kristina Marie Hawkins, 35. Hawkins was killed in the collision. Boatright, who was injured seriously, was 8 months pregnant. Her infant child, delivered by Caesarean section, died later at the hospital.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, initial investigation indicates that Hawkins driving south bound, in a 2004 Ford Taurus, crossed the center line and struck Boatright’s 2015 Honda Civic. Troopers believe Hawkins may have been distracted, perhaps by her cell phone, at the time of the collision.

Boatright, who has one child, was taken toMemorialUniversityMedicalCenterinSavannah, where she is in the intensive care unit.

Boatright and Hawkins are neighbors and live on River Oak Drive right off Old River Road.
