Umpire in the dark
2A9A0776
During the second inning of Tuesday night's game at Rebel field in Springfield, the home plate umpire watches in right field as Wayne County's Cade Lambert tracks a practice fly ball. A couple of banks of outfield lights didn't power up initially and the game was halted for about 15 minutes. Effingham County athletic director Matt Huntley turned on the lights at the nearby football stadium to help with the situation. Then the umpire asked Lambert if he could see well enough to play. Lambert said yes and shortly after the game resumed all the lights came on and the game proceeded without incident. Wayne County prevailed 11-2. - photo by Mark Lastinger/staff
