United Way Kicks Off New Campaign
UnitedWay

An energized crowd of United Way supporters gathered for lunch at the Effingham College and Career Academy Wednesday to kick off the 2016 Fall Campaign and celebrate lives changed in the past year.

Attendees of the kickoff luncheon enjoyed fellowship and food provided by the Effingham College and Career Academy Culinary Arts students, who prepared and served the meal. Sponsors of the lunch were Georgia-Pacific Savannah River Mill, Georgia Power and Effingham Health System.

“Pacesetter organizations and companies lead the way in pledging support prior to the start of the campaign,” UWCE Effingham Area Director Julie Dickey said. “This year, United Way thanks the following pacesetters for starting our ‘#BeTheOne’ campaign off on the right foot: Effingham County Board of Education, Effingham Health System, Reiser & Reiser CPA’s, Georgia Transformer and Edward Jones.”

The leaders have pledged a combined $103,289 toward this year’s goal of $320,000.

“UWCE  has no budget for advertising and we are grateful for the generous media donors throughout the Coastal Empire who provide support through print ads, radio PSA’s and billboard advertising,” Dickey said. “This year, Georgia-Pacific Savannah River Mill produced the Campaign Video, capturing the stories of three special families whose lives have been dramatically improved through donor support.”

The video played before attendees ate lunch and provided insight into the various ways that United Way helps families in need.

Campaign Chair, Joe Tallent, Community Outreach for Effingham Health System, spoke about the 2016 Campaign along with “The Big Guy” Frank Sulkowski.

Tallent encouraged each member of the community to “’Be The One’ to change a life this year.”

Contributions to the 2016 United Way campaign ensure that every child has the potential to succeed, adults can provide for their families and everyone can lead a healthy life.

United Way would like to thank Georgia-Pacific for their ongoing support through employee giving, loaned associates and large product donation to the United Way weekly prize drawing.
