A minor wastewater discharge spill was caused Monday due to the electrical failure of one of the pumps, which caused a shutdown of a lift station near 890 Hodgeville Road, Guyton GA. Effingham County contractors responded quickly to recover and neutralize the discharge.

 

DATE OF MINOR DISCHARGE: Monday, February 14, 2022

REPORT SUBMITTED: Tuesday, February 15, 2022

LOCATION OF MINOR DISCHARGE: Ditch segment in the vicinity of 890

Hodgeville Rd, Effingham County, GA

 

CAUSE OF DISCHARGE: Pump Failure.

 

ESTIMATED DISCHARGE: Less than 9000 gallons.

 

RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage ditch contiguous to minor unnamed water bodies within the Ogeechee Watershed.

 

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN: By-Pass pump was installed. A Vac Truck was employed to recover what was discharged. The affected area was neutralized with calcium hydroxide.

 

SPILL STATUS: Corrective action completed. No further discharge occurring.

 

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE DISCHARGE:

Submersible pump has been repaired and bypass pump remains installed.
